July 14th, 2008
July 16th will be the last day to register for the race. If you are planning on racing, sign up ASAP.
There have been a few updates to the team gear list. You'll need to make sure you have a team watch and one glowstick per person. We also updated 'bike tire' to read 'bike tube.' No need to carry a spare tire!

Some teams are travelling from pretty far away and we know a few are looking to rent bikes. We contacted Pinnacle Ski Sports in Stowe and they have offered a 20% discount to racers. They have a limited number of higher end bikes, so they recommend you call and get a specific bike at the right size reserved for you.
And speaking of reservations, make you sure you make a reservation for Friday night at the Cider House if you plan on eating there.

We've released the current team listing - we already have twenty-two registered teams from eight states and two provinces! It is great to see so many of last year's teams return to challenge themselves again, along with several teams who raced the MVP Health Care Frigid Infliction and want to give a summer race a try. It's a sign to us that we're doing something right if people continue to come back for more!
Our shirts for this summer's race will be made from the high-end wicking material we used in this year's Infliction. This is an even better quality shirt than racers received in last year's Bitter Pill; to quote Tim, our Race Director, we have "smooth wicking rocktacularness."
If anyone wants to order extra shirts, just let us know. $18 per shirt. (They won't be white OR green this time! We're thinking....red.)

We're excited to announce that the Cider House in Waterbury, VT, will be the location of both our post-race dinner and race registration. This is a fantastic restaraunt and you can expect the best meal you have ever seen at a twelve hour adventure race.
For example, you can expect dinner to include:
* Cider House salad with maple balsamic vinaigrette
* Homemade macoroni & cheese made with Vermont cheddar
* Baked rosemary chicken
* Vegetarian etouffee
* Pulled pork
* Key lime pies
* There will be several other items as well (homemade cornbread, anyone?)
If you would like to eat there Friday before or after you register, you will need to make reservations. They'll have live music going that evening as well. We recommend you try a bowl of gumbo at the very least. Yum!

Congratulations to the teams that have already registered - glad to have you on board. The course is shaping up quite nicely and we're expecting a flurry of teams to sign up over the next few weeks before the early registration discount ends.
We'll have a significant update in the next week or so regarding the location of registration and the post-race dinner. We're pretty excited about this change and you will be too once we let the cat out of the bag!

MVP Health Care has agreed to be the title sponsor of the both the 2008 Frigid Infliction and Bitter Pill Adventure Races. This will allow us to remain the most affordable twelve hour adventure races in the Northeast while increasing the quality of the events we put on. Our thanks go out to MVP for chosing to support a great non-profit like GMARA.

We're pleased to announce that this year's Bitter Pill will be a USARA Regional Qualifier! The winning three-person coed team will receive $400 towards attending the USARA Adventure Racing National Championships. Only a select number of races are permitted to be Regional Qualifiers, and we are pleased to have been chosen.

We've posted our initial race details. A majority of the course is already planned and it looks great. Expect another trek primarily off-trail with a significant elevation change. As always, we're looking forward to seeing the first registrations roll in!
